These photos were taken on a trip to Bass Rock in June 2007.
The rock is a popular tourist site as it holds approximately 10% of the world population of North Atlantic gannets
The scientific name for the gannet, Sula bassana, acknowledges this fact. The rock lies well within view of North Berwick where my daughter Karen lives.
My wife incidentally had never seen a puffin before this trip so this was a first for her. It was also quite rough and my grandaughter Maya looked a bit green for a while but she held on bravely to the bitter end.
My wife's sister Birgitta and her husband Thomas were visiting from Sweden at the time and were suitably impressed.
